Touched by the difficulties faced by truck drivers in his childhood, Bhubaneswar-based Biswajit Muduli came up with a transport logistics start-up to benefit both truck drivers and customers. Spare a few minutes to know more about his laudable initiative…
How it started
29-year old Biswajit spent his childhood among Adivasi children in tribal-dominated and it’s also a Naxalite–Maoist area of Odisha. “The difficulties that truck drivers had to undergo while spending days in the forests used to touch me as a child. After completing Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications from KIIT Polytechnic and BBA from Sikkim Manipal University, I joined my family business,” Biswajit told chalgenius.com
I started my own plumbing parts shop at Balimela in Malkangiri off Odisha. It was then that I realized the difficulties that truck drivers usually face in the transportation of materials. I understood that the transport sector is a huge opportunity for both the truck owners and customers who are shifting materials. Thus, in 2018 I launched Foliyoo ~ a transport logistics startup.”
How does Foliyoo work?
It provides complete transportation solutions to its customers through the web and mobile-based applications. Shifting and moving-related concerns can be addressed in a simple three-step process through Foliyoo. One can easily get a reliable truck supplier and manage it through mobile.
“The customer uses our app to make bookings to the truck driver. He gets multiple options of truck drivers in the app when he searches for a particular route where he wants to transport the material. The app will also show the review of the truck drivers. He can choose the driver and do the booking. The payment has to be done in cash to the driver. But soon, we would provide online payment options.”
All trucks have a tracking system through which customers will be able to get real-time tracking information. One can simply download the Foliyoo App through Google Playstore in order to use it.
Proper background checks of drivers are done before registering them with Foliyoo.
A win-win situation for both truck drivers and customers
Truck drivers can decide what they would like to be paid for a particular booking and customers can choose the best option from the list of truck drivers and their charges. “We give utmost importance to safety issues and so truck drivers are registered only after thorough background verification,” said Biswajit.
Foliyoo has gained popularity
Biswajit says that the initial one year after the start-up was launched was extremely slow, “It was very difficult to convince the truck owners to join us as their past experience in this sector was very poor. However, we continued to convince them patiently. Finally, they started trusting us,”
“Till now, we have registered 1500 bookings. We have 400 truck owners registered with us. Initially, we started our operations from Bhubaneswar and presently we have managed to expand to Sambalpur and Rourkela. We plan to start operating in Balasore very soon and in the next 6 years we will expand further in Kolkata, Sikkim, Bihar and Jharkhand,” explained Biswajit.
Foliyoo has been incubated at AIC-Sikkim Manipal University Technology Business Incubation Foundation (AIC-SMUTBI).
