Two brothers from Bokaro Steel City in Jharkhand ~ Kundan (23) and Abhishek Mishra (24) ~ with a dream to run their own venture, started Custkart- Merchandise Store for providing best quality printed t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, bags, caps and other items to corporate houses and at college events. “When I was in 3rd year in my B.Tech degree, I watched a show called TVF Pitchers and started thinking about my idea. When all my classmates were studying for their semester exams, I was researching how to start a start-up,” Kundan founder of Custkart told Chalgenius.
Change of plan
“During a chance encounter I met Prof Tej Chingtham (currently, CEO at AIC-SMUTBI) and discussed my startup idea with him. He has been instrumental in making things move. At that time, I along with two friends had the idea to start a salon aggregator and become a one stop destination for all grooming needs. However, during placement one of my friends got placed in AMAZON and he decided to quit the team. The other friend also decided to leave because of family pressure. It was depressing since I was left all alone and often felt that I made a mistake by not having taken up placement offers in my college,” he added.
While attending a college fest in December 2018, Kundan came up with the idea of designing event-specific t-shirts for students. Finally, Kundan set up Custkart- Merchandise Store in June 2020 along with his elder brother Abhishek. Within six months they have achieved a turnover of Rs 50 lakhs.
About Custkart- Merchandise Store
Initially the duo received less than 10 orders through word-of-mouth and managed orders from third party vendors. Gradually, the orders started pouring in. Currently, Custkart has a factory at a small village located a few kilometers from Bokaro and the company’s office is at Bokaro. “We are now a profitable unit and have just completed delivering one lakh t-shirt orders. Almost 90% of our customers re-order which justifies our quality. Till now, we have not received even 1% complaints,” said Abhishek to Chalgenius.
Corporate houses and educational institutes look for merchandise as a promotion campaign for brands or events. Custkart-Merchandise Store looks at both the requirements of the corporates along with considering the taste of the end-users.
Custkart- Merchandise Store is for those who want to keep their employees or students satisfied with the merchandise provided by the organization. Since last year, the Mishra brothers have collaborated with over 30 colleges and students’ councils for providing merchandise at events along with 11 academic institutions of Bokaro.
Custkart- Merchandise Store has partnered with Bangalore-based Suno Bey and will launch their first store on 14 February. “Custkart-Merchandise Store together with Suno Bey will be selling the best funky quoted t-shirt in India. We are very excited about this journey and are gearing up for the launch,” added Kundan.
