MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old girl from Navi Mumbai, who passed SSC exams last week, strangled her 40-year-old mother to death with a karate belt after an argument over her studies, the police Monday.

The incident occurred on July 30 with the girl who allegedly tried to pass her off as suicide, but the autopsy report confirmed that it was murder, said the investigating officer of the Rabale police station, the assistant. police inspector Dinesh Patil.
“There was an argument at home with the mother who persuaded her daughter, who had just passed the SSC exams, to study well and take a medical course, but the girl resented and resorted to extreme measure”

The girl even attempted to file a police complaint against her mother last month, but the police summoned her parents, including her father who is a senior engineer at a private company, and advised them.

On July 30, there was a fight at home for studies when the girl pushed her mother who fell to the floor and received severe traumatic injuries, said another IO Avinash Mahajan.
Later, in a fit of rage, the girl allegedly smothered her injured mother with a karate belt and dragged her body onto the bed, although it is unknown whether her seven-year-old younger brother was in the house or not.

He then sent a message from his mother’s cell phone to his maternal uncle, stating that his mother had locked herself in the bedroom, ostensibly to pass the crime off as suicide.After a week of investigating and trying to win the girl’s trust, a policeman finally managed to get her to confess to the crime.

“The girl admitted to the crime after a heated argument when she was in a rage on July 30. The post-mortem report also confirmed that the cause of death was due to strangulation and head injuries,” Patil said.The girl was arrested and will soon be presented before a Juvenile Council for further legal proceedings, police said, as the revelations in the case stunned people in and around Navi Mumbai.
