Unexpected phone call
A “Hausla-Junoon story,” as Walunj wrote on LinkedIn, is how she described her meeting with Tata. Aditi and the co-founder Chetan Walunj knew their business needed a mentor from the beginning, and Ratan Tata was the only person their mind could think of.
“Starting a business is challenging as receiving investments, and the right guidance from successful entrepreneurs is not easy,” commented Ms. Aditi Bhosale Walunj.
Ms. Aditi shared that people around them said meeting Ratan Tata was impossible. The founders, Ms. Aditi Bhosale Walunj & Mr. Chetan Walunj, remained determined and sent handwritten letters to him. They connected with people and waited for 12 hours outside his house. After returning to their room, they got a call from Mr. Ratan Tata at 10 pm.
The Encounter
“I was reluctant to answer but when I answered the voice, on the other hand, said ‘Hi! Can I speak to Aditi? I said: ‘Yes. May I know who this is? (Somewhere, my heart knew it) He said, ‘This is Ratan Tata here. I got your letter. Can we meet?’ Me: *Numb* *Goosebumps* *tears rolling down* *smiling* (ALIVE)”
“The following day, we arrived at his house at 10.45am and waited for him in the living room with our presentation. A tall, fair person wearing a blue shirt approached us at sharp 11 o’clock. It felt like SILENCE.”
Ratan Tata offered his experience and advised the entrepreneurs throughout the three-hour meeting. “Ratan Tata Sir asked, ‘What do you expect from me?’ We said, ‘Sir, help us serve people and take our country global. Guide us. He said, ‘Okay.’ We stepped out of his house; it felt like we were walking out of the temple.”
Investment & Funding
The duo created a 3D presentation to show how they planned to revolutionize how fuel distribution by incorporating technology to deliver it to various locations. After the approval, the startup received its first investment token from Ratan Tata in 2019 and the second round in April this year.
