Muslims in Kolkata are feeding the hungry without religious discrimination

Muslims in Kolkata have stepped forward to offer food to human beings without identifying them on caste and religious lines. Read the article below to know more about their endeavour

People from all walks of life step forward

People cutting across religious lines have come forward to help those who are facing the severe brunt of coronavirus outbreak. The most badly hit are daily wage earners who earn and live each day. A group of Muslims in Kolkata who do charity around the year have made special arrangements to ensure that the poor doesn’t sleep hungry during the lockdown irrespective of their religious affiliations.

Dawat-E-Quran offers ration kits to daily wage earners

Dawat-E-Quran, a non-profit has been distributing free ration kits to people in various parts of Kolkata, especially among the daily workers. Around 40 volunteers of the organization have been reaching out to poor households mostly in slum areas of the city, “We have been distributing ration kits containing flour, wheat, oil, soap and other essential commodities among poor whose income has been drastically hit during the lockdown. We give rations to our volunteers who in turn distribute them to the beneficiaries. We have given ration kits to over 500 people who were in dire need of it,” said Maulana md Imtiyaz Ahmad, founder of Dawat-E-Quran.

No discrimination on religious lines

Tanwir Pervez, a volunteer said, Dawat-E-Quran doesn’t discriminate on religious grounds while choosing the beneficiaries, “We do not make any differences between Hindu and Muslims. We consider this as a purely humanitarian work. We have distributed ration to people from all communities.”

He further said, the organisation distributes free ration regularly and not just during the coronavirus outbreak, “We keep on giving ration kits to people and our efforts have only been doubled during the coronavirus pandemic.”
