The foundation
Unnao’s Shivam Saini (24) and his mother Asha Saini launched their food tech start-up in 2019 which ran successfully in the first three months but the plans of taking it to another level soon got fizzled out.
Shivam says that he founded his company 99tiffins after borrowing a sum of Rs 1 lakh from his father who was not keen to support the former’s idea of becoming an entrepreneur. He informs that a freelancer cheated and duped him that delayed his plans.
However, after facing challenges, he managed to roll out 99tiffins in June 2019 which remained in operations till August 2019 before it ran into trouble and got dysfunctional. He had prepared a detailed plan of having his own startup in 2018 and after tying up with vendors he finally launched the firm in June 2019.
Financial trouble
Shivam told Chalgenius that he faced financial trouble which led to disintegration of his team and soon he lost all of its vendors and employees within three months of launching of 99tiffins.
He says the company performed well and it catered to over 1,200 customers across Lucknow. Shivam informs that since Lucknow is a major city and does have a lot of working professionals, he and his mother thought of starting it in Lucknow instead of Unnao which is much smaller compared to Lucknow.
How did it begin?
Shivam says it all began when he got the idea of having a food service related startup from his mother. He was convinced that if people do like the food of the tiffin, they would become a permanent customer of 99tiffins. He set up a cloud kitchen and collaborated with 30 other aggregators which helped him boost his business from June to August in 2019. Although, he did not have delivery boys to deliver the tiffins, the aggregators helped him do the job. But destiny had some other plans. After, few months, he started facing financial trouble and his staff left his company.
Overwhelming response from customers
Shivam told Chalgenius that he received overwhelming response from his clients in Lucknow mainly because of quality and quantity he offered to them. He reiterates that it is the food quality which attracted people. The tiffins were available with a starting price of Rs 50 (regular vegetarian meal) to Rs 500 (Keto meal tiffin-low carb meal).
It saves cost
He has done Bachelors in Science from Kanpur University. He always had a knack of technology and because of this he had designed a Tesla battery model when he was in 8th standard. He says because of lower-middle-class status, poor support and connections he could not start the project in time.
His speciality is in Technologies, user interface, branding and marketing domain.
