Rashmi Kulkarni with more than 15 years experience in human resource and administration has become a successful mompreneur based in Belgaum in Karnataka by converting her passion for art and craft into profession by launching a creative education studio. Spare a few minutes to appreciate her initiative…..
The beginning
“My daughter was born after 8 years of my marriage. We are a nuclear family and I could not join my corporate job after her birth as I could not leave her to caretakers. At that time the ‘work from home’ concept did not exist in a small town like Belgaum. So after thinking a lot I decided to come up with Tarang Creative Club to educate through art,” said Rashmi who was born and brought up in Bangalore but settled in Belgaum after marriage. Studio Tarang was launched in 2012 and it was registered in 2013.
Rashmi had a passion for art and creativity but she never thought that she would be able to convert it into her profession. “I had a flair for art and craft since childhood but did not have any formal training in this area. It was out of my passion that I went ahead learning different art forms and upgraded my skills. I researched and constantly learned new things and innovative techniques, she said, explaining how she found that self-learning is the best way out.
Studio Tarang
“It was named Tarang as it was formed with waves of thought in my mind and I was particular to give my firm an ethnic Indian name. My Studio is my strength and passion. It gives me creative independence, financial stability as well as satisfaction of work I do,” she said.
Studio Tarang is a creative enterprise that focuses on Art and Creative products along with educational kits. It is recognised as one of the best places to learn Art and Craft. Rashmi is also into teaching and is the creator of DIY (Do It Yourself) Kits. These kits are currently supplied to four to five schools in Bangalore and Pune. The hobby activity centre based in Belgaum holds classes from Monday to Sunday. “We come up with new products periodically to ensure we are on track with market trends and interests. Apart from DIY Kits, Tarang has entered into premium hand-painted jewellery designing, execution of portraits, corporate gifting to name a few,” Rashmi added. This apart, Tarang helps parents to organise events for theme-based parties.
Covid paved a new way
After Covid, Rashmi is running the studio as full-fledged Sanskrit promoting place where efforts are taken to introduce kids to various Hindu cultures, traditions and reciting ancient shlokas with a blend of art and craft in the same. “We not only teach shlokas but also tell them their background and context as well as how to recite them. We design activity based shlokas so that kids don’t get bored while reciting them,” she said.
Working for the society
Rashmi is planning to distribute educational kits to underprivileged children so as to help them in their learning process. She is trying to tie-up with some NGOs for this purpose.
