Who is Aby Baby?

Forty five-year old Aby Baby, an engineer hailing from Kerala has devised an innovative technology that uses donkey milk to make organic skin care products. His company
Aby Baby set up Dolphin IBA in 2017. The company has its manufacturing unit near Kochi and has already gained popularity in India along with catering to many Middle East countries. The products are mostly sold online at Amazon or the company’s website ~ http://www.dolphiniba.com

History behind the concept

Aby dreamt of coming up with a special beauty product. He had read about the benefits of donkey milk but did not know whether it could be used as an ingredient for his beauty product. It was the Bible that showed him the way. He had read in the Bible that Job and Abraham had donkeys and that male donkeys were used for lifting loads while female donkeys were considered to be good for health and beauty. It was then that the idea clicked on using donkey milk as an ingredient for his special beauty products. Thus, he started his research in 2008.

Converting idea into reality

He converted his kitchen into a laboratory and converted the milk into a dry form as he found that it was not possible to use it in liquid form. Thus, with the help of technology, donkey milk is frozen to minus 40 degree Celsius and water is removed by the method of freeze dry. Finally, the product is a powder packed with the benefits of donkey milk.

The beginning

Aby has a 2 acre farm in Ramamangalam, located 30 km from Kochi. The Dolphin IBA factory is a kilometer away from the farm and manufactures cosmeceuticals (cosmetic products with bioactive ingredients) and nutricosmetics (nutritional supplements for skin nails and hair) products. To start with, Aby bought 31 donkeys from Tamil Nadu by paying around Rs 28,000 per donkey and brought them to his farm.

Why donkey milk

Historically donkey milk was part of beauty rituals of ancestral cultures. The Greeks considered donkey milk as an excellent remedy while the Romans regarded it as a luxury drink. It is rich in vitamins (A, B, C, D, E) and fat acids (omega 3 and 6) and helps to restore and protect the membranes of skin cells. The Lysozyme present in the formulations is suitable to be a skilled attenuator inflammatory state of the skin and scalp. A donkey gives 400 ml to 1.2 litres of milk a day for six to seven months after foaling. A litre of donkey milk costs around Rs 3,000 to 7,000.

Beauty products and their advantages

The most sought after products are those that are used for treating skin ailments like itching and psoriasis. The products are rich in vitamins and omega fatty acids and make the skin softer and blemish-free. There are 10 products ranging from shower gel, shampoo, facial kit, morning and evening creams and skin tightening products. The prices start from Rs 2,400 (for shower gel and 200 ml shampoo) to Rs 7,000 (for 44g skin tightening products).

Future Plans

“We are planning to enter further in the Middle East countries. We are hopeful that we would succeed in setting up our second manufacturing unit there,” Aby told Chalgenius .
