The journey

From an investment of Rs 2,000 Prahlad Mittal has brought his start up to a point where it is registering a turnover of Rs 15 lakh because of his grit and determination to have something of his own.
Mittal along with his two friends Rajat Kar and Ritesh Mittal (both of them are the company’s COO) launched Homvery Pvt Ltd in 2017 on a pilot basis in Odisha’s Burla. The idea was to extend local services at reasonable prices.
Mittal unveiled his startup on the last day of his engineering course in Odisha’s Sambalpur. It got extended it to Sambalpur and after two years and in Jharsuguda and in Bhubaneswar in February and June 2020 respectively.
“The turnover would reach around Rs 30 lakh during the lockdown,” he says.

Motivation behind startup

When asked about the motivation behind rolling out such a start up, Prahlad Mittal, an engineering graduate and CEO of Homvery told Chal Genius he found that local mechanics for electrical and plumbing service used to avoid customers haggling with them over service fee. He then thought of establishing a local services company that offers services to people at reasonable prices with a warranty.
Mittal says when he was in second year of his engineering course; he made his mind to float this company with a meagre investment of Rs 2,000. Mittal suggests that people should not have fear of anything to launch something of their own.
He says the start-up has served over 5,000 services and has over 50 technicians. Mittal says the technicians with Homvery get flexibility of doing their ‘other’ work apart from the company’s job. However, they need to put the company’s work on priority.

How it works?

People can book services like laundry, choreography, carpenter, electrician, home appliance repair, plumbing, interior design, web app development among others from its website or a mobile app at a certain fee. Once, a technician inspects the problem of any electronic device, the customer can either take a full service or pay a visit fee of Rs 50 in case if he/she is not willing to avail any full service.

USP

The start-up is focusing on tier two and three cities to boost the business and further expand it in these cities. He says the tariff of various services has been matched with the market rates and customers are not charged for anything else. Mittal says he wants to launch it in 100 cities and give it a pan-India presence.

Covid-19

Mittal says his business has gone up in the lockdown as people now want to hire service providers who are strictly following social distancing and hygiene norms while visiting their homes to deliver essential services. Mittal remarks that Homvery is adhering to such norms to get maximum orders from the people.
