Centre to give free vaccines to states from June 21: PM announces new policy

Indian Medical Association has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of free vaccine to all above 18 years. The opposition, meanwhile, welcomed the announcement and said ‘better late than never’.

 

rime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced free vaccines to all those above 18 years of age from June 21. The announcement was hailed by the Indian Medical Association as it would help in India’s fight against Covid-19

In his virtual address to the nation, PM Modi said that the Central government has decided to procure Covid-19 vaccines for everyone aged 18-44 and supply them to states free of cost.

“No state government will have to spend anything on vaccines. Everyone aged 45 and above was getting free vaccines and now, those aged 18 will also get free vaccines,” he said.

Indian Medical Association national president Dr JA Jayalal hailed the announcement and said that the universal vaccination will help India come out of the pandemic crisis.

“IMA HQ profusely thank our Hon.Prime Minister Ji for his innovative important announcement of universal vaccination for all to be carried out by Government of India itself in this pandemic. IMA is constantly and proactively supporting the vaccination drive initiated by Hon. Prime minister and in this unique moment IMA will strive hard with the Government ,with all our man power to support and carry forward the vaccination to the door steps of every needy individuals,” DR JA Jayalal said.

Tha national president of IMA added that, “With this altruistic initiative and by adhering to covid-19 appropriate behaviours without letting our guard down ,IMA is confident we will face the third wave positively ,and keep our country come out of the pandemic crisis shortly.”
