Failing to become an RJ, blind youth runs his own successful radio station in Kolkata

Defeat is just a mirage while victory is a reality. This adage has been proved right by a Kolkata youth who started his own radio channel after he couldn’t pursue his passion to become an RJ. He was turned away by radio stations for being a blind but he didn’t give away. Really amazing isn’t. Spare a few minutes to applaud his initiative…

Saheb Sharma stands as a perfect example for those who do not believe in giving up and hell bent in proving that challenges cannot pose any huddle in their march to victory.

The 31-year-old who was born blind in Kolkata didn’t regret over his disability rather than he decided to live a normal life and achieve his dreams.

Saheb runs an Internet radio station in the city of joy called Bongonet that he launched in 2012.

The radio station has 12 sub-stations dedicated to different forms of Bengali music that includes folk, romantic, peppy, contemporary, Rabindra Sangeet among others. He is also a Radio Jockey in his radio station.

Saheb shares an interesting anecdote behind his journey of becoming a radio jockey and launching his own radio station, “I wanted to become a radio jockey since my childhood. I did mass communication in the hope of getting my dream job. I started applying for it and went from one radio station to another but received constant rejections. It was very depressing,” he says while sitting at his office in the city.

The rejections, however, failed to crush his spirit. He then decided to open up his radio station. Currently, Saheb is an RJ in his own radio station Bongonet and has over 50 lakh listeners with 4 lakh listeners who visit the radio station regularly. He also makes customised radio stations for malls, schools and other outlets.

Why Bongonet
It offers you music in all genres of Bengali music. He also makes dedicated radio stations for schools and commercial outlets at affordable prices.
