A start-up from Bihar kicks out your worries of watering the plants

Do you want to wake-up watching vegetables and flowers in your balcony and roof-top apartments but the worries of constantly monitoring the plants for supplying water keeps you away from pursuing your hobby? If that be the case, then this article is a must read for you.

Watering the plants is an issue

It’s a common hobby among people to grow plants in their houses or terraces for vegetables and flowers. But often the packed schedules coupled with constant monitoring of plants for water supply thwarts many from pursuing their hobbies.

Your plant will take water automatically

But a start-up based at Patna in Bihar has found a solution for it. Amit Soni, founder of Aiva Tech Labs has invented self watering system for plants, “Our device is fully automatic and runs on sensors. It is self-automated drip irrigation that starts supplying water to the plants once it detects that the plant’s has lost 98 percent of its moisture,” said Amit to Chalgenius.

How it works?

Amit, who is a software engineer, says that the benefit of Self Watering System for Plantation is that it doesn’t waste water and saves plants from getting damaged, “There are already such gadgets available in the market giving water to plants but they are fixed with timers circuits and supply water despite plants not requiring it, especially during rains when plants already have water. Excess water damages the plant. But our device starts working only when the plant needs water. It is connected with tab that supplies water when the plant requires it even if the tap is kept open.”

Over 150 orders pending due to lockdown

His wife, Deepa, who is the director of Aiva Tech Labs told Chalgenius that total cost of installation of a device is around 4500 with one year warranty, “Currently, we are selling only in Bihar through e-commerce and also channel partners like tie-ups with nurseries. We have installed around 30 devices since commercialising it in 2019. We have around 150 orders yet to be cleared due to lockdown.”

Doesn’t insert harmful chemicals in plants

Amit told Chalgenius that Chinese products who offer similar service are cheaper but they have timer circuits but his device can work in all type of environment, “We not only save plants but also water. We do full installations of the device. We use RO food grid pipe that do not emit chemicals and keep the plant organic.”

The start-up was a runner up in Bihar expo

Amit got first associated with Bihar Entrepreneurs Association (BEA) and the start-up has been incubated at Bihar Industries Association (BIA) He has also bagged the second price for his innovation in Bihar expo, 2020.
