Bid adieu to Chinese firm

Mahavir Poddar is one among many people who always wanted to do something big and start his own company. With passion for startups, Poddar not only left a well settled job with a Chinese company after the simmering tensions with China at the Galwan valley but also focused on his dreams.

Wanted to work for the country

He says his decision to quit his job with the Chinese firm on June 30, 2020 was not a “knee jerk” reaction of the Government of India’s move of banning 59 Chinese apps. “I had been contemplating and wanted to seriously contribute towards India’s innovation, production, employment, self reliance,” he told Chalgenius.

Joined Chinese firm in 2015

In 2015 he joined as country head- India of a large stock listed Chinese solar company and had a very good professional tenure of five years in the Indian solar industry.

Smart modular switches

Meanwhile, Poddar met Abhijit Das and team in 2019 wherein they showed their first prototype of smart modular switch and regulator. Das was passionate about creating an affordable smart automation product for homes and offices which overcame many latent limitations and problems unknown to customers till they install smart home automation. And then he had plans for many more IOT products and solutions in the future.

Had to face tough times

Poddar became a seed investor and mentor in their startup and they started building a commercial market ready prototype. However, after few months, Poddar and Das started facing problems when the team members disintegrated and they left to pursue their other interests. With problems engulfing the progress, they both worked hard to solve them. Both of them could not rebuild a team despite many attempts.

Delayed due to covid-19

Their commercial prototype was finally ready on March 2020 but Covid-19 pandemic had struck the country that brought a countrywide lockdown. They again got badly hit and stuck up.

After few months of the lockdown, Poddar resigned from Chinese company and on July 1, 2020, he joined as full time Cofounder to support Abhijit Das and create Lazot brand with 100% Make in India focus.
Lazot has presently started with smart devices for home and commercial buildings and has future plans for smart IOT products and solutions for industrial, solar, electric vehicles industries too. Lazot will have commercial launch of its smart modular switch and Regulator on August 15, 2020.
